Blog 4
I know my last blog was also on Ebola but talking about it in class today brought up a good point. Are we being selfish when it comes to this illness? As a country we need to think about just us as a whole for a second and realize whats best for the citizens here. The doctors that are going and volunteering their time and lifes to help the people in West Africa is a great thing but at the same time when they want to return home they need to not only think about them. Yes we have the incubation period of waiting to see if you're ill but i think these volunteers need to think about it before they go to the other countries. By going to places like Africa you're putting not only yourself at risk but everyone else you come in contact with on your way home. We can't afford to have a massive breakout of this virus and to some it sounds selfish but i think any other country would do the same if roles were reversed. I think we can try to create a cost efficient vaccine but we can't have all different doctors and nurses coming in and out of these countries it's just too risky. If we do happen to find a vaccine or gain more insight on how to treat this then maybe we can open up more to help but at this point and time we need to realize that by helping a few over there it can do alot of damage back home over here. Another point was the 'us vs. them' and I can see where people are coming from but at the same time the news is supposed to report about this country, we already know its a major problem over there and yes it's sad but it's kind of more relevant when someone over here has it because this is where we are and this is where we are responsible for keeping healthy. If we got a major outbreak here it would not only cause major health issues but also an even bigger economic struggle with all the jobs that would be shut down and peoples health bills
