How can one fathom the amount of deaths and injuries caused in any war? The war in Afghanistan caused two million deaths, the crusades cause three million, and the Vietnam war caused eight hundred thousand; but these are only statistics. To better understand these numbers, and to realize the copious amounts of pain caused by war, we need a visual.
So close your eyes imagine your whole grade. The whole senior class alone is approximately three hundred people. Now imagine the entire student body, approximately one thousand eight hundred people. That's not even one precent of the amount of people who lost their lives to the war in Afghanistan. If you took all of the eastport south manor school district you would still only have about fou thousand students. We would need approximately seven hundred and fifty versions of our district in order to obtain the amount of people lost. If you were to take all of suffolk county, one million five hundred thousand people. That is still only half of the amount of people lost.
If people don't begin to understand how detrimental war really is how will we ever be able to look at lost lives as more than a statistic? Will we ever be able to peacefully settle arguments? Are the lives of those around us really worth gaining land or power?
